The Technological Centre in Biodiversity, Ecology and Environmental and Food Technology (BETA) was born in June 2014, to give a definitive boost to the research activity in the field of the environmental technologies at the Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVIC-UCC). The main mission of the BETA Technological Centre is to be a relevant actor for the technological development, the improvement of the competitiveness and the quality of life of rural societies. The impulse for fulfilling this mission comes from both the execution of R&D&I projects and the transfer of knowledge to the private and public sector. The knowledge of the BETA TC is organized around the expertise in a) Environmental Technologies & Circular Bioeconomy; b) Applied Ecology & Global Change; c) Soil & Nutrient Management; d) Sustainability Accounting and Optiomization and e) Governance for Sustainability.

The BETA TC is part of TECNIO, a network that promotes differential technology, business innovation and excellence in Catalonia and that identifies technology centers and university groups that are experts in research and technology transfer.During last 6 years, BETA Tech Center has been involved in several competitive R+D+I project funded by EU calls (H2020, Interreg MED, Interreg POCTEFA, LIFE), Spanish Government, international cooperation entities, etc. Furthermore, since 2014, BETA has been working in the research field of environmental engineering, being the main research line of the group with more than 40 contracts signed with private companies and public administrations and providing the Center with a fully equipped laboratory.

Key role(s) in the project

In AccelWater project, BETA TC will be the leader of a specific case study based on valorising wastes from meat processing industry in order to obtain treated wastewater available for on-site reuse and produce high-added value and energy (WP 5). BETA TC will be in charge the design and monitoring of the pilot plant. In addition, BETA TC will lead the tasks of communication and disseminations of the obtained results in WP 5.
